Gurugram, Jun 26 (KNN) In the wake of a deadly explosion at a fire extinguisher ball manufacturing facility in Sector-104 last week, Gurugram district administration has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive safety audit of all labour-intensive industrial units in the area.

The incident, which resulted in four fatalities and left 12 others critically injured, has prompted authorities to take swift action to prevent future tragedies.

Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has formed a probe committee to investigate the cause of the explosion, determine responsibility, and recommend preventive measures.

The committee's findings, expected within a week, will guide the upcoming safety audits.

Preliminary investigations suggest that improper storage of explosive materials or concentrated acids may have contributed to the initial fire and subsequent explosions.

The arrested factory owner, Sandeep Sharma, reportedly lacked necessary permits and licenses to operate the facility.

Officials revealed that Gurugram district houses 1,664 industries classified as 'hazardous' and 2,649 as 'non-hazardous,' employing over 612,000 registered workers.

However, concerns have been raised about the existence of numerous unregistered industries operating without adherence to safety regulations.

The incident has highlighted the need for stricter oversight of industrial operations, particularly those categorised as hazardous.

Deputy Commissioner Yadav stated that penal action would be taken against units found in violation of rules and regulations following the safety audits.

As investigations continue, authorities face challenges in determining the full extent of the factory's operations due to the complete destruction of the facility and lack of official records.

The safety audit initiative aims to address these concerns and enhance worker safety across Gurugram's industrial sector.
