371 unauthorized colonies get facelift by DSIIDC

New Delhi, Jul 10 (KNN)  In order to improve the basic infrastructure across the city, DSIIDC has constructed about 800 km of roads and 1,500 km of drains in as many as 371 unauthorized colonies.
 
The premier infrastructure development agency of the capital, Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) was assigned to carry out developmental works in 634 unauthorised colonies spread over 21 assembly constituencies.
 
Until May this year, the task has been completed in 371 colonies.  Also, an expenditure of Rs 1,334 crore was incurred for the financial year 2012-13 to improve basic infrastructure in the colonies.

Further, a media report quoting a senior DSIIDC official has said that projects worth Rs 278 crore were currently under progress in 97 additional colonies which will be completed by the end of the current financial year. 
 
The Shriram Institute for Industrial Research, has been entrusted with the task of ensuring quality in the projects implemented by DSIIDC.
 
DSIIDC has been executing development work in unauthorized colonies in various parts of Delhi for more than a decade.  The work is done on behalf of the Government of Delhi with an aim to provide essential services in such colonies.

The assembly constituencies where most of the work has either been completed or in progress include Badarpur, Rithala, Timarpur, Narela, Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri, Palam, Vikaspuri, Bawana, Badli, Chandni Chowk, Burari, Rajouri Garden, Mustafabad, Gokulpur, Kirari, Bijwasan, Matiala and Karawal Nagar.
 
The Delhi government had regularised 895 unauthorised colonies in September last year.  In this context, various agencies have been tasked with improving basic infrastructure in the colonies.  (SD/KNN)
