AP industrial units partially closed to protest power tariff hike

The bandh was called to demand a complete roll-back of the power tariff hike, considering that people were already being burdened by 'fuel surcharge adjustment.’
18 industrial associations, including several small-scale (micro) units in and around Charlapally participated in the state-wide bandh, said KNN correspondent.
TIF took part in the dharna along with leaders and representatives of various industry associations. Earlier, a large number of bandh supporters took out a rally to the sub-station from the Kushaiguda Micro Industries Park in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile the state government has assured the micro, small and medium enterprises that it would take every step to redress their problems.
Andhra Pradesh Minister for Small Scale Industries, Prasad Kumar in a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises said his ministry would inform the Chief Minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy of their problems so they can arrive at an amicable solution. He also promised to take up the matter with the concerned department officials.
AP Electricity Regulatory Commission announced a new power tariff order for 2013-14, allowing power distribution companies to levy additional tariff of Rs 6,173 crore on consumers from April-1. (KNN)
