New Delhi, Apr 20 (KNN)  To ensure a better future and job security, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Institute in Assam has offered various training programmes to hundreds of school dropouts and the not-so-educated.

The initiative by the Assam government is to lay emphasis on the empowerment of youth in the northeast as well as to motivate and guide youth towards a better future.

Since the inception of the programme, hundreds of youth have turned up at the institute for a year-long skill development course in various streams.  Mostly uneducated or school dropouts, they are willing to start their own ventures and put themselves on the job market.

A news agency quoted Kajal Das, Supervisor at Guwahati's MSME Development Institute, saying that the youth in the northeast have been benefitting from the training.

MSME-DI, Guwahati has also organised a number of training programmes for the first generation entrepreneurs for upgradation of their techno-managerial knowledge and skills with the ultimate objective of starting MSEs in various fields.

Founded in 2004, the MSME Development Institute also provides a month-long vocational course to provide training to skilled workers engaged in MSEs and to equip them with better and improved technological skills of production in various trades, including tailoring and weaving.

The institute conducts the training programmes in Industrial Motivation Campaigns, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes and Skill Development Programmes, Management Development Programmes and Business Skill Development Programmes.

The placement and getting finance to start their own businesses is also taken care of by the institute once the youth receive a diploma from the institute.

The training of youth in Assam not only helps in creating new employment opportunities to the weaker section of the society but also for the country as a whole.

The MSME sector employs over 70 million people across 26 million enterprises in the country and contributes 8 per cent to the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP). (KNN)
