Cauvery Water: Mysuru MSMEs support Karnataka bandh call on Sept 9

Mysuru, Sep 8 (KNN) The Mysore Industries Association (MIA) has extended its support to the bandh call given by Pro-Kannada organisations and farmer unions on September 9.

Pro-Kannada organisations and farmer unions have called for Karnataka bandh on Friday, September 9, to raise their voice against the recent directive by Supreme Court pertaining to the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

“Mysore Industries Association fully supports the Karnataka Bandh call given by Pro Kannada activists, Farmer’s Organisations in the background of Supreme Court judgement,” Suresh Kumar Jain, Secretary, Mysore Industries Association, said in a statement.

The industry body for MSMEs in the region has requested all industrialists and service establishments to declare Compensatory Holiday on 09.09.2016 and to function during coming weekly holiday.

Noting that the samba crops in Tamil Nadu would be adversely affected, a bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and UU Lalit on Monday directed Karnataka to ensure supply of water to Tamil Nadu.

In a recent plea, Tamil Nadu had sought a direction to Karnataka to release 50.52 tmc feet of Cauvery water to save 40,000 acres of samba crops this season. In reply, Karnataka had said it has a deficit of about 80 tmc feet in its four reservoirs. (KNN Bureau)
