Delhi Govt ask users of weights & measures to get instruments verified else face penalties

New Delhi, Mar 28 (KNN) The Department of Food Supplies & Consumer Affairs has asked the users of weights and measures, which includes small traders and manufacturers, to get their instruments verified from the weights and measures department, failing which they would be liable for prosecution.

“All the users of weights and measures are requested to get their weighing and measuring instruments verified from the weights and measures department as per provisions of the Legal Metrology act, 2009 to avoid prosecution under the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009,” the Weights and Measures Department said this in a notification today.

Failing to get the verification would attract penalties of fines starting from Rs 5000 which may go up to Rs 15000 under different provisions of the Act.

The user may also get imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year and also with fine for the subsequent offence. (KNN Bureau)
