“SMEs are solely depended on power supply distribution and they do not have other resources to run the machines. So any initiative to make power supply companies more accountable is a welcome step,” said FISMESecretary General,Anil Bhardawaj. “It will makediscoms more customer friendly,” he added.
Power supply companies, according to Bhardawaj, invariably cut off electricity without prior notice, owing to which SMEs cannot plan their production, which is a matter of priority.
However,Chairman of New Life Pharmaceuticals,Deepak Behlwhose company is located in Okhla Industrial area is satisfied with the power supply to his company.
“I don’t have many complaints as far as power distribution companies are concerned.Electricity goes off in my plantonly once a month; although when power cables burst, it takes almost a week to fix, which naturally delays production,” Behlsaid.
Behlblames companies for using more electricity than sanctioned as a reason for unplanned power cuts.
However, apart from power cuts a common problem that SMEs encounter is with regard to the poor functioning of meters which sometimes run fast.
