Environment Ministry focuses on improvisation of central laboratory in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Sept 6 (KNN) Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) plans to focus on reforming their central laboratory in the state capital through funds from the World Bank.

The Government has received a loan/credit from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development/the International Development Association under their project titled "Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management (CBIPM).

Ministry of Environment and Forests, is implementing this project with an objective of strengthening the environmental management capacity of central and state level regulatory authorities with emphasis on rehabilitation of polluted sites and for undertaking area-based demonstration projects on remediation of contaminated sites.

The project also aims at developing a "National Program for the Rehabilitation of Polluted Sites" to reduce or eliminate the environmental and health risks associated with legacy pollution.

Two states, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, have been identified for undertaking remediation of hazardous waste contaminated sites and municipal landfills as demonstration projects suitable for scale up.

The APPCB is responsible for implementation of the project in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

In this context, APPCB has sought bidders for refurbishing works of the central laboratory on turnkey basis in Sanathnagar area here.

The approximate cost of the refurbishing work would be Rs 8.60 crore, which is to be completed in a time span of 6 months. (KNN/SD)
