Gems & Jewellery sector has immense potential to create jobs: Vasundhara Raje

Jaipur, Aug 22 (KNN) Emphasising that the Gems & Jewellery sector has immense potential to create jobs, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said adding that efforts should be made to make it popular word-wide.

She said the sector has its importance as it contributes 15 per cent of total exports from India.

Rajasthan alone exports Rs 1,000 crore worth of gems and jewellery and thus is a significant player in this sector, Raje said while addressing the Jewellers Association Show.

The chief minister asked the designers and entrepreneurs to design jewellery keeping in view the choice of youngsters. She also said that efforts to be made to attract tourists to buy good jewellery at good costs.

Raje asked the entrepreneurs to come forward to enhance the skills of the budding designers.

The Chief Minister said Jaipur has become the hub of not only coloured gem stones but also of jewellery.

"The gems business in the state is over three centuries old. The meticulous and intricate workmanship has earned artisans laurels from corners of the world," Raje said.

She also assured jewellers of her efforts regarding their demand for direct flight from Jaipur to Bangkok and Hong Kong.

Union Minister of State for Finance Arjun Ram Meghwal, Industry Minister Gajendra Khinvsar and others were present at the function.
