Jammu, Dec 14 (KNN) The Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) has urged the state government to look into the issues face the local industries there which includes lack of marketing avenues; high cost of transportation; and negligence of the industrial sector for cross-border trade.

An Urgent Meeting of the Members of the Bari Brahmana Industries Association was held under to discuss the current scenario of Cross-LOC Trade.

The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Lalit Mahajan, President, BBIA.

“The thought to start the Cross LOC Trade was the Brain Child of our Chief Minister Mufti Mohd. Syeed which was introduced as a positive step for the Confidence Building Measures between India and Pakistan for the benefit of people of Jammu and Kashmir on both side of LOC,” BBIA said in a release.

As per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) between Governments of India and Pakistan, the items manufactured or produced in both part of Jammu and Kashmir are eligible for Trade with the identification of 21 Items comprising primary commodities but later on the majority of Items were traded which were not manufactured or produced in our State due to which the Industrial Sector is neglected for Cross LOC Trade till date.

“It is pertinent to mention that the Industrial Sector of our State is suffering due to lack of marketing avenues for their products to outside the state as our state is a ‘Land Lock State’ and it is not possible to compete with the manufacturers of neighboring states due to higher transportation cost for the raw materials and finished goods,” BBIA cried.

“It is a matter of great concern that no benefit was given to the Industrial Sector of our State in Cross LOC Trade in spite of an opportunity was given but the trade was diverted for most of the items which were neither manufactured nor produced in our State,” it added.

The industry association appreciated the roll of NGO’s of National and International Level for their best efforts for the Confident Building Measures amongst the two countries but said that “little attention was given for the Industrial Sector in the meetings held at National or International level which shows the casual attitude of these Organizations towards the Industrial Sector of our State”.

The members present in the meeting requested the Chief Minister, Haseeb Drabu, Finance Minister and Chander Parkash, Industries & Commerce Minister to take up the matter with the Government of India that,  for Achieving dual goals of Economic Development and Peace Building along with new Market Avenues, all goods manufactured in J&K be brought into the ambit of Cross LOC Trade; to open other routes on LOC close to Border e.g. Pallanwala – Chhambh, Nowshehra - Mirpur and opening of Suchetgarh (Jammu District) route for International Trade of Goods with other part of Pakistan on the pattern of Wagha Border to explore New Market for Local Industry and to resolve the other issues like telecommunication facility, issue of trade permits and  financial transactions with banking facilities.
