Ranchi, May 15 (KNN) Jharkhand which receives a good amount of rainfall has announced a programme for setting up of mini, micro and small hydro power stations for generation of  25 MW of energy.

The programme is being implemented through the Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) which has invited bids for development of these small generating units in the state.

The developers will have to provide 12 per cent of their output free to the state and further two per cent for the local area development fund (LADF), under the terms and conditions spelt out by JRDEA.

As many as five projects have been identified for development of the programme by independent power producers. The power generated will be sold to the Jharkhand State Electricity Board.

Total installed capacity of the power plants of Jharkhand is 1,390 MW, out of which 1,260 MW is thermal and 130 MW is hydel.

JREDA is, as its future endeavour, eyeing to tap the immense potential existing in Jharkhand in the field of small and tiny hydel power plants. The agency is in the process for finalising 68 such sites with total power generation potential of over 90 MW.

Under the micro hydel projects, small scale power plant generates electricity using the energy potential of water. Micro-hydro power plants convert the energy of flowing water into electrical energy. The energy produced by them is renewable and the process does not emit polluting gases.  (KNN)
