Jammu, Apr 4 (KNN)  In Jammu and Kashmir, about one lakh youth including dropouts will be given training and jobs by 2017 under the Himayat scheme, out of which over 15,000 would be given training and placements during the year 2013-14.

As per the Himayat scheme, priority would be given to youth who are school drop-outs, those who have studied up to class 10 or class 12 and to college drop-outs. To date, 45 Himayat training centres have been set up across 19 districts out of the total 22 districts in the state.

“Over 5,000 youth had been provided jobs in various companies within and outside the state since the inception of the scheme and over 15,000 would be given training and placements during the year 2013-14,” Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh said.

Speaking at the University of Jammu yesterday when 947 youth were given job letters, Ramesh said that the Himayat Scheme with an aim to provide training and jobs to one lakh youth during the current plan period was progressing well.

The minister also reiterated his assurances for capacity building, training and placement of the conflict-riddled state’s youth, besides the upliftment of women.

The Government of India in coordination with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, he said would launch a special scheme for the socio-economic welfare and the upliftment of the state’s women.   It would be a part of the centrally-sponsored Mahila Swayam Sahayata Samooh for which an outlay of Rs. 800 Crore had been earmarked.

Acknowledging the programme, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said, “The special capacity building and employment schemes like Himayat, Udaan and the state government’s Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Scheme for the unemployed youth have gone a long way to train and absorb the youth in different sectors.”

The J&K CM also said that over four lakh youth were currently unemployed in the state.  Of them, 70,000 were being taken into government services this year.
He said that the centre’s support would be significant in expanding the job market for over three lakh youth.

Ramesh also promised one PC Tablet each to 400 youth who have completed one year of service in various companies under Himayat.  He said that the stipend of Rs 1000 per month for two months being provided to the placed youth in various companies has been enhanced to Rs 2000 per month for six months.  (KNN)
