Bangalore, Aug 5 (KNN)  With the foundation stone laid for an MSME Technology Development Centre in Bangalore and steps being taken to establish another in Belgaum in north Karnataka, the state will have two such centres that will create additional jobs for the educated and encourage more people to become entrepreneurs.

The foundation stone for the technology development centre was laid at the Bengaluru Aerospace Park near the Bangalore International Airport, by the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, M Veerappa Moily.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for MSME K H Muniyappa said that a second such centre would be established in Belgaum to cater to the people of the north Karnataka region.

The upcoming technology centre, with testing and calibration facility, would not only facilitate development of precision tools required for the aerospace and electronics industries, but also the required manpower, especially for MSMEs in the Electronic System and Design Manufacturing sector.

The centre is the first to come up under the Technology Centre Systems Program (TCSP).

The Petroleum Minister informed the media that fifteen more such centres would come up under this program across the country at a cost of Rs 2,240 crore, the next one being in Rajasthan.

The MSME centre to be built at a cost of Rs 200 crore will train 10,000 people annually in precision tooling and assist 1,000 MSMEs by way of design and development of sophisticated moulds, dies, tools and equipment, as well as assisting in testing, calibration and consultancy services in related fields.

Muniyappa said that the Centre would be of immense help to Bangalore as it is also the capital of aerospace and electronics industries and home to many state-run defence research and development institutions.  It will also be of help to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and National Aeronautics Limited based here.

The state government had allotted 10 acres of land for setting up the technology centre, the first in the country, in the aerospace park near the Bangalore international airport at Devanhalli, about 40 km away and adjunct to the special economic zone. (KNN/SD)
