Kerala to have Spices Park in Wayanad

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 27 (KNN) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma has announced setting up of a spices park at Wayanad in Kerala, for which the state government will provide 15 acres of land. 

After his meeting with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here yesterday, Sharma also announced that a convention centre at Kochi would be built. 

Listing various measures for helping the state industries, he said that in his meeting with the Chief Minister it was also agreed in principle to provide insurance to plantation cultivators.

“It was agreed in principle at the discussions with the Chief Minister for insurance in the plantation sector with the involvement of the centre, state, and farmers and growers,” said Sharma.

The centre will also provide infrastructure for three ports at Azhekkal, Beypore and Kollam.

It was decided to establish an Institute of Handloom Technology at Kannur with a cost of Rs 4.25 crore and a Handloom and Handicraft village at Chennamangalam in Ernakulam.

Earlier, Sharma reviewed industry-related issues with the state government officials of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, in Kovalam. (KNN)
