Leather Council likely to set up trade centre in Agra

New Delhi, Jul 27 (KNN)  The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has proposed to establish a trade centre in Agra at a total project cost of Rs 18.90 crore.

The project is promoted by Agra Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Chamber, Agra, according to an official notification from CLE.

The Council is keen to initiate the project under the ASIDE Scheme (Assistance to states for development of export infrastructure and allied activities) of the Government of India.

In this context, it seeks to appoint a project management consultant who will assist the CLE in all aspects of setting up of the trade centre in Agra.

CLE is the single largest and apex trade promotion organization of the strong and rapidly growing Indian leather and leather products industry.   It is committed towards the overall development of the Indian leather sector and achievement of higher export growth to enhance India’s share in global leather trade.
 
It functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It is the notified export promotion organization for the entire leather and leather products industry. 

The Leather Industry holds a prominent place in the Indian economy. This sector is known for its consistency in high export earnings and it is among the top ten foreign exchange earners for the country.
 
With an annual turnover of over USD 8.5 billion, the export of leather and leather products increased manifold over the past decades and touched USD 4.99 billion in 2012-13, recording a cumulative annual growth rate of about 8.54 per cent (5 years).  (KNN/ES)
