Kolkata, Apr 26 (KNN) The West Bengal Government, led by Mamata Banerjee,  is in the process of speeding up land acquisition for micro and small industries with the help a state agency (WBSIDCL) and  joint venture projects which will build and develop basic infrastructure like roads and electricity.

The Small Industries Unique Clearance Centre (UCC) which has been functioning for the last few months has already helped entrepreneurs acquire 52 acres. It has set a target of acquiring a total of 775 acres in the next eight months for the four joint ventures (JVs) in Howrah district.

These JVs will develop industrial infrastructure at the cost of Rs 300 crore and would create a total investment of Rs 5,000 crore , according to state officials.

The development comes as a pleasant surprise in a state where land acquisition is seen as one of the most difficult tasks for the industrial houses. The way the Tatas had to leave their prestigious Nano project at Singur had damaged the reputation of the state.

The West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd (WBSIDCL)’s JVs for the industrial estates in Howrah district are:  Bengal HCCI Ltd. (with Howrah Chamber of Commerce and Industry); West Bengal Hosiery Park Infrastructure Ltd; Bengal Techno Industrial Projects Ltd; and  Bengal Anmol South City Matrix Infrastructure Ltd.
The total land involved for the four projects is around 775 acres.

The state officials said the Small Industries Unique Clearance Centre (UCC) has been set up in  the office of the District Magistrate in Howrah under the District Land and Land Reforms Officer.

“UCC is meant to provide the necessary technical assistance to expedite all land clearances and complete mutation/conversion of the identified land of the project area, within an agreed time frame. In addition, the UCC would also provide assistance for inter-departmental coordination assistance to the JVs”, an official said.

He said within the first month of its operation, mutation has been completed for 26 cases involving an area of 52 acres. Processing has started for 165 acres involving 72 cases. Conversion process has been started on 38 acres of land involving 12 cases.

“This is almost five times faster than the average rate of processing,” he said. (KNN )
