Guwahati, Jan 11 (KNN) The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) located in the North Eastern region of the country have urged Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra to set up multi-product clusters in the region.

Mishra was in Guwahati on Sunday, where is inaugurated a seminar organized by Laghu Udyog Bharti (LUB) on MSME (Back Bone of Nation).

Talking to KNN, Om Prakash Mittal, National President, LUB, said, “We have submitted a memorandum with the Minister making some suggestions to boost the MSMEs.”

He said that the MSMEs have urged for setting up of clusters such as timber, food processing, and tea garden and promote sectors such as tourism.

Responding to the entrepreneurs, the Minister said he would take note of all the requests made and take steps accordingly.

While addressing the event, the Minister said interacting with LUB and small entrepreneurs “is a great help” for policy making.

He said the primary aim of the government is to get all MSME units registered so that they get all the benefits from the schemes.

“Presently only 35 lakh units are registered whereas there are approximately more than 5 crore units,” he pointed adding that UAM registration is very low in North eastern region.

“There is urgent need to create awareness in NE states about UAM,’ he said.

The Minister apprised the industry about various government schemes and asked the industry to take benefits of the schemes.

Another issues raised by LUB was of “disturbance” in the region. The industry said the North Eastern states should have a positive relation with each other so that the entire region can grow.

Speaking about the MUDRA Bank, Mishra said he hold discussions with the banks soon. (KNN Bureau)
