PTCUL to build new substations in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Jun 5 (KNN)  Following the recent annual rise of 5.21 per cent in power tariffs for the current year, the Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL) has decided to construct substations at Harrawala and Jaffarpur.

PTCUL has invited separate bids for the construction of 220/33 KV substation at Harrawala and 220/33 KV GIS substation at Jaffarpur, said the Superintending Engineer in an official notification.

Recently, the monthly fixed charge for domestic consumers was hiked by Rs one to Rs 25 whereas power rates for them was increased from 10 paise to 40 paise per unit.
For small industries, power rates have been hiked by 15 paise per unit whereas for heavy industries it has gone up by 20 paise per unit.

The loss making Uttarkhand Power Corporation Ltd had proposed 50 per cent hike in power rates across the state but the power regulatory commission has approved an average hike of 5.21 per cent in the rates.
 
As per the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the anticipated demand of the energy for Uttarakhand for the year 2011-12 is 10480 MU and the available energy is 8363 MU; while the peak demand of the state is 1600 MW and the availability is of 1430 MW.
 
Energy, particularly, power consumption in the state of Uttarakhand has grown more than five times in the last ten years.
 
PTCUL was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 on 27th May 2004 with the basic objective of acquiring, establishing, constructing and operating extra high voltage, high voltage medium voltage and low voltage lines and associated sub-stations equipment apparatus, cable and wires and co-ordination of transmission facilities for the state of Uttarakhand.

PTCUL is the state power transmission utility (STU) responsible for building, operating and maintaining transmission substations and lines at extra high voltages (EHV) of 132 KV, 220 KV, 400 KV and above. It was carved out of UPCL in June 2004 as a part of the power sector reforms process.

PTCUL is also responsible for load despatch and energy management functions in the state through load despatch Centres (LDCs).  As corporate entity, PTCUL aims to implement best practices of project implementation and operations and maintenance management to ensure efficiency, reliability and commercial viability of power transmission system in the state.  (KNN)
