“Small industries in Ghaziabad are suffering due to frequent power cuts and there is total shut-down between 10 pm to 2 am every day. Sometimes the industries do not get power till morning,” said President of Ghaziabad Small Scale Industries Association, M L Arora today.
Further, large and medium industries which are dependent on small components manufacturers have cut their demand for machineries due to power shortage.
Lack of demand from medium enterprises has made small enterprises shut their factories in the city.
“Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are perishing fast due to lack of demand and cut-throat competition in the market. Now, the power crisis is an additional problem for us,” he said.
Even residential areas in the city are battling outages.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has announced four hours of daily outages at night to Noida industries. This will be in force till September-15.
The power cuts have been justified by the corporation as a contingent step to meet a sudden spurt in demand. Further, electricity production has also dipped owing to breakdown of several generating stations.
After the floods in Uttarakhand, almost 400 MW has remained unavailable from the state. (KNN/GUNJ)
