Jaipur, Sept 27 (KNN)  Keeping pace with technological advances, Rajasthan Government is planning to go hi-tech by making all government buildings in the Pink City Wi-Fi enabled.

Jaipur is soon going to become India’s second complete Wi-Fi enabled city after Mysore.

The Department of Information Technology and Communications (IT&C) is spending Rs 4 cr to make all the government offices connected under Secretariat Local Area Network (SecLan) and provide onsite maintenance for a period of five years.

Sec LAN or Secretariat Local Area Network is a Local Area Network for all the Government offices in and around Secretariat (SecLAN).

In this context, the Department of IT&C seeks service providers  “…to supply, install, integrate and  commission  Wi-Fi network in various  government  buildings  connected under SecLAN in Jaipur city and to provide  onsite maintenance  and FMS for a period of 5 years,” the Secretary and Commissioner, IT&C, Government of Rajasthan said in a notification.

Wireless Fidelity or Wi-Fi as it is popularly known is a wireless standard that is used for connecting Wi-Fi enabled electronic devices such as laptops, smart phones, audio players, PDAs and gaming consoles to the internet within the range of a wireless network connected to the Internet.

Wi-Fi enabled devices like laptops, mobile phones and tablets will be able to avail speeds of the fast connection. The high speed internet can be used to download videos, e-mail and internet surfing.

The free internet WiFi service will be provided even to the guest users in the city who will need to switch to Wi Fi mode on their Wi Fi devices, said ACP of SecLan, Rajesh Gupta.
The main points of the city will be connected with the wi-fi which will be the top tourist places, parks, railway stations, bus stand and many more.

The internet service providers will allow free access to internet for duration of 30-60 minutes, Gupta added.

In 2010, the city of Mysore became the first Wi-Fi enabled city in India, with hotspots covering the entire city and surrounding villages. Wi-Fi enabled Mysore was the second in the world after Jerusalem.  (KNN/SD)
