Kollam, Jun 3 (KNN)  Tourists to Kerala can now enjoy spectacular views of 'God’s Own Country' thanks to the launching of the country’s first tourist sea plane service.

The six-seater Cessna 206 floatplane would in due course connect the entire stretch of Kerala with Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode airports, being base stations.

The move would give quick access to distant backwater holiday destinations, according to media reports.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy launched the service amidst protests by traditional fishermen who claimed that the service would pose a threat to both their livelihood and the marine eco-system.

Chandy assured fishermen who had congregated their boats to mark their protest that the service would not hinder their livelihood.  In the event of any challenges that arise, the authorities would take corrective action.

Union minister of state for civil aviation K C Venugopal, state tourism minister A P Anil Kumar and Peethambara Kurup, MP, were present on the occasion.  (KNN)
