Kolkata, Feb 17 (KNN) The West Bengal Government is getting financial aid worth Rs 3,000 crore from the World Bank for panchayati raj development schemes.

The aid coming after the earlier tranche of USD 200 million for the same purpose would cover a thousand more panchayats, an official release said today.

According to the World Bank, the state has completed 98 per cent of the projected work, in lieu of the earlier tranche, on certain parameters, against a target of 80 per cent, by the end of last year.

The World Bank is happy with the developmental work done in the panchayats so far and the work has been held up as a model for other States to follow, it said.

With the new aid, the State Government would execute projects in the districts of Purulia, Bankura and Paschim Medinipur.

The earlier projects have helped the gram panchayats in generating more revenue, in increasing the revenue of panchayats by around 24 per cent.  (KNN Bureau)
